Former Hereford marksman John Mills has been named as part of the Herefordshire FA XI. |
John Mills and Joel Edwards will be some of the former Hereford players to return to Edgar Street next Tuesday (7.45pm kick off) as a Herefordshire representative side take on an England C team XI.
The Herefordshire FA (HFA) XI will be managed by fan favourites Ryan Green and Rob Purdie, the game aims to celebrate 125 years of the organisation.
HFA Chief Executive Jonny Walker said it's been difficult to whittle down the squad as there's so many players who they'd like to be involved, but he hopes there will be a good turnout of Hereford fans at the game with the next scheduled home game not until Saturday, March 9th.
There will be six current Bulls players among the squad, as well as the return of the club's leading goalscorer John Mills who's currently on loan from Bath City to Hereford-based Westfields.
Walker said: "We've got a big squad, but it's difficult because there's people you want to be involved and give them an opportunity, even if they're only going to be on the pitch for ten minutes.
"Hopefully it'll be a bit of a celebration for Herefordshire football. There's no real interest in county FAs, people follow their club.
"We're relying on people with a vested interest in the players, like Hereford fans who want to see John Mills play back at Edgar Street.
"It's nice for Joel to come back and play after a successful season. It's also intriguing with Rob and Ryan heading it up, they're always very popular amongst Hereford fans.
Walker also praised Hereford FC with their help to make the event possible
"I hope it's perceived as a bit of a showpiece event, 125 years is a long time for an organisation.
As for the England C XI they're coming up against, manager Paul Fairclough will being non-league players from clubs in Worcestershire, Gloucestershire and Wiltshire, as reported by the Hereford Times.
"Having the England C team coming is a big thing for anyone so we're really excited about it. Hereford have been fantastic in helping us put the night on.
"The squad is relatively strong and we've got a great management duo in charge, so we hope it's a bit of a showpiece event and it's seen as a celebration of local football.
"Anyone can come along and watch, it's open to anyone, it's a public event. All clubs have been invited to the 125 dinner.
"All clubs have been invited so they're very welcome to join in the celebrations there as well."
