Richards Felt Hereford Were 'Good Value' For A Point

Head Coach Marc Richards felt Hereford put in a better performance tonight as they managed to come from a goal down to rescue a point at Guiseley.

Richards said it was gutting to go a goal down when Kayode Odejayi took the lead for the hosts in the 26th minute, but in the second half were 'good value for the point'.

Marc Richards told the press after the game: "I thought the first 20/25 minutes I thought we were excellent and then unfortunately we go and concede when I thought we were the better team was pretty gutting.

"But the boys got through the first half, I would say after that, and second half other than in a spell for ten or 15 minutes which you always will be away from home, we were good value for the point.

"We've got some really talented individuals in the squad and it's them realising to really grab hold of games and make sure we're winners.

"We really need to do start getting points on the board and the performance was there, but sometimes we need to be a bit ugly and sometimes we need to do some of the stuff that doesn't come naturally to them.

"I think some of the boys, Tommy O'Sullivan in centre-midfield and the defence were struggling in the first half to deal with (Paul) Clayton and Kayode (Odejayi), I thought second half they dealt with that a lot better."

Richards said he was gutted not to manage to take a three point haul back to Herefordshire as the performance levels are back to what they were before the New Year.

"I was really pleased with the performance tonight actually, frustrating to go a goal down," Richards added.

"But overall in terms of the last couple of games, Brackley and Nuneaton, we haven't really been at the same performance levels.

"Today I thought we were excellent at times so pleased with the performance but gutted not to nick it at the end."

The Bulls did go close to netting the winner in a slightly intense final few minutes at Guiseley, with Frank Williams from Radio Hereford Fc suggesting that home keeper Marcus Dewhurst might have been the host's man of the match.

Richards said: "I don't know how he's pulled off the two saves, the George Lloyd one which is a point blank header and then Tom Owen-Evans one.

"Three actually, Tom Owen-Evans' one where he's turned it on the volley and he's pushed it wide, and the one right at the death that's gone across.

"Keyon (Reffell) and TOE (Tom Owen-Evans) just slid in and Symo (Mike Symons) has got that final touch and it's kind of gone back into the six-yard box and unfortunately it's just not dropped for us.

"Going away in this league is so tough and to pick up a point is another point on the board, just gutted not to come away with all three."

Hereford are on the road again on Saturday as they face the long trip to Blyth Spartans, which will be an overnight stay for the Whites.

More to follow tomorrow.
