Illusive Away Win For Resilient Bulls Said Richards

Hereford won their first away game since August this afternoon as they beat Blyth Spartans 3-2.

Head Coach Marc Richards felt his side rode their luck at time, but proved they're resilient and managed to get his first league win away from home.

"If there was a neutral here it would have been an absolute humdinger in terms of the chances there were at both ends," Richards told the press after the game.

"To be honest we rode our luck at times today and it wasn't a vintage performance for us at all, but we've been talking about how we need to be resilient and we need to keep working until the final minute.

"Obviously we proved it today and we've come away with our illusive away win."

Although Richards said it wasn't a vintage performance, that's not what was needed today.

"The lads have really bought into everything we're doing and you can start seeing that now," he added.

"It wasn't vintage from us but we didn't need that today, we just needed to find a way to win. The boys did that, yeah we've had a couple of chances where we could have maybe killed it off but they've had some chances as well.

"Some great defending and defended our box really well at times today as well. Disappointing to concede that late one which made it a little bit nervy.

"Really pleased with the boys and it makes the trip home a lot nicer."

Hereford took the lead in the ninth minute as Tom Owen-Evans scored the only goal of the first half.

The Head Coach felt that Hereford weren't the best team for the first 45 minutes, but admitted" that might be because he can be 'hypercritical'.

Richards said: "We started really well, the first ten minutes we were excellent. We started off on the front foot then dropped off, they were the better team first half.

"It's frustrating because we started so well and we didn't manage to keep that going after we scored the first goal.

"I'm hypercritical sometimes, in terms of what we've been talking about and working on. Irrelevant sometimes of the scoreline I'm looking at the performance because I know over a longer period of time if the performance levels are right we'll come out nine times out of ten with the right result.

"If you're relying on a bit of luck it's not going to work in the long run. Over the course since I've been in I think we've deserved a bit of luck and we've had a bit of that today."
