Hereford narrowly lost this afternoon's National League North game at Bradford (Park Avenue) 1-0, conceding in the second half after dominating before half time.
Head Coach Marc Richards said Hereford should've done more when they were on top during the first half, but conceded when a free kick was taken quickly and a mix up at the back led to Bradford capitalising.
"In terms of first half performance I thought we were excellent," Richards said.
"But we didn't capitalise when we were probably the better team. I just said to the boys it's those fine margins, we switched off from the quick free kick and it's cost us.
"We more than matched them today, so just really disappointing that we haven't come away with anything."
It appeared that recent signing Josh Gowling was shielding the ball as it ran back towards Matt Yates in goal, but after some confusion Lewis Knight had broken the deadlock.
"It's frustrating because it wasn't a really good move from them, not an unbelievable strike from 20 or 25 yards, it was just a bit sloppy," added Richards.
"And to be honest over the last three or four weeks we've been really good in terms of managing the game and switching on, having full concentration for 90 minutes.
"We're gutted, I thought we deserved at least a point today. It was sort of a mix up in the back line, but it was probably us not switching on from the quick free kick as well which has caused them to get in down the right hand side.
"When we get good results it's a team effort, and when we get bad results it's a team effort so I'm not pointing any fingers at all."
The pitch at the Horsfall Stadium did cut up with some heavy rain in Yorkshire recently, but Richards was content that the Bulls played some decent football regardless.
He said: "On a difficult pitch I thought we played some excellent football, especially in the first half we created numerous chances but we haven't been as ruthless as we have been in previous weeks.
"It's cost us today because I thought we were worth at least a point."
As the game entered stoppage time, James Roberts was seemingly fouled within the penalty area, but the referee waived away the shout despite protests from several players.
"I agree with you (stonewall penalty), but maybe they could've had one late on as well. We're not going to make any excuses.
"Yes it looked like a penalty to me, but I'm gutted we hadn't done enough within the 90 minutes to be 1-0 up at that point.
"Having seen literally every single player (surround the referee), showed it was stonewall penalty. I haven't seen it back yet, but James has done ever so well to get into the area to nick in front of the right back, but unfortunately it didn't go our way today."
The Bulls are still without an away win in the league since August, but Richards and the side aren't dwelling on it. Richards was keen to focus on the improved performances lately, seeing them go four games unbeaten before today's defeat.
"We've been focusing on what we've been doing in terms of improving the performances and the squad, I think we've seen that in the last three or four weeks.
"Yes we've lost 1-0, but a really good performance. Apart from that little bit of sloppiness second half, I thought we more than matched a team that are sitting at the top of the league.
"It wasn't a surprise that we matched them, it was just frustrating that we didn't capitalise when we were on the ascendancy. I just spoke to the boys, that's the fine margins between a team that's sitting at the top of the league and our current situation where we're obviously down near the bottom."
