James Roberts scored the winning goal at Edgar Street earlier today as Hereford beat Alfreton Town 2-1.
Roberts fired the ball home from the penalty spot after Mike Symons was fouled in stoppage time with the score level.
"(I felt) pretty numb actually because it's obviously a big responsibility, but when the ball rolled to me after Symo was brought down there was absolutely no doubt in my mind that I was going to take it," Roberts said.
"I'm a confident person in real life as it is, confident on the pitch so not much going through my mind really, just do what I normally do and plan it.
"Once I had the ball I didn't look behind me because I knew there were probably a host of players waiting to take it.
"As I say I'm a confident player so when I had the ball it would've taken a manager's call to take it off me to be honest. When you see a penalty taker with the ball you don't go up to them and mess with their head.
"Had someone else got the ball I wouldn't have even asked, I know that they concentrate, so I appreciate that from the boys."
Even though Roberts got his name on the scoresheet today, it was three points that were most important for him.
He says that there's a really good team spirit in the changing rooms at the minute.
"Most importantly today was the three points and after we got pegged back by a goal the character shown was a different class," he added.
"It's not just the 11 on the pitch, it's the 16 on the team sheet as well as the boys that haven't made the squad. They're always encouraging, they're in the changing room geeing everyone up.
"It is a good team spirit. I heard Tom Owen-Evans saying it after the Darlington game that it's a really good team ethic in there.
"Back-to-back wins and we're delighted with it."
