Mistakes Cost Guiseley In FA Cup Defeat

Guiseley co-manager Russ O'Neill said two mistakes cost his side dearly in last night's FA Cup second round clash against Fleetwood Town.

Joey Barton's Fleetwood will face an all League One clash against AFC Wimbledon in the next round as they beat Guiseley 2-1 at Nethermoor.

Despite 76 league places separating the two sides, Guiseley gave their opponents a few scares early on, but Fleetwood drew first blood and were two goals up by the 30th minute.

The Lions were unlucky to concede the second, described as a 'freak goal' by their official site. A misplaced back-pass from Jo Cummings allowed Wes Burns to close right in on the keeper. Keeper Joe Green’s attempted clearance ricocheted straight back off the Fleetwood man and into the unguarded net.

O'Neill admitted that the mistakes which lead to Fleetwood opening up a two goal lead cost his side dearly, but was pleased with grit and determination the National League North side showed.

"We're bitterly disappointed because our first half performance was excellent until those two mistakes which cost us dearly," he said, as reported by BBC Sport.

"In the second half Fleetwood's professionalism told and they closed the game down but I'm pleased with the way we kept fighting.

Kingsley James
"The whole cup run has been outstanding and we will now analyse it and really hope to build on it and move on in our league games."

Hereford travel up to West Yorkshire on Saturday as they try to extend their unbeaten run to four games.

Former Bull Kingsley James looked lively for the Lions last night, with winger Kaine Felix also one to watch on Saturday.
