Hereford Won't Be Stupid With Finances Said Webb

Hereford's new management team have managed to impress a number of supporters with some quality signings, most notable Josh Gowling and Tom Owen-Evans - all without an increased budget from the club's board.

Commercial Director George Webb has confirmed that the budget has remained the same despite the changes to the management structure at Edgar Street, and overall finances are in a 'good state'.

When Pete Beadle left the club there was still money left in the football budget which covers all aspects of the playing side, from players' wages to travel to away matches.

George Webb said: "Finances are in a good state. We're within budget and the football budget has not increased since Beadle. We set the football budget at the beginning of the season and it's exactly the same now, nothing has changed.

"The only thing that has changed is that we've changed the management team around. They're working within the same budget structure, we've increased the budget year on year from day one, so as we've gone through the leagues we've increased the budget.

"We're never going to be stupid and where we're looking from at the moment, financially we're really in a strong position."

Webb was asked whether Mike Symons' returning from injury was the catalyst for Hereford's upturn in form, but he thought the new signings have all played a part.

"There's a lot of things," Webb added.

"I think the new management team and the players they've brought in. They've done a lot of work getting players here in the right mindset and of the right ability for what we wanted to do.

"Mark (Richards) has got a plan. We've gone from training once a week at the start of the season to twice a week now that Mark's gone in. The players are fitter, they're having strength and conditioning work and it's showing on the pitch.

"The whole team is looking a lot fitter, I think even (Mike) Symons is looking fitter. I think that's the biggest part of it, the number of ingredients that have gone in. We're not there yet, we're not the finished article, there's a lot of work in progress and things to be achieved, but we've got the makings of a decent squad.

"We look like we're getting somewhere near a squad that can compete in this league. This is by far the hardest league, wherever we go everybody says this is a blinking hard league.

"Then you look at the National Conference and all the sides that get promoted from the northern league can compete in the league. You see the ones from the south, they're the ones that struggle in the Conference. We know it's a difficult league."

Hereford are now three points clear of the relegation zone, picking up ten points from the last five games.

Self-proclaimed optimist Webb can't help but think the Bulls could still climb into the play-off places by the end of the season.

"People have laughed at me, but right from the FC United game I've said that I can see things changing. Looking at the players we've brought in and their quality, I knew it was going to take time to gel, we'll make the play-offs and I still believe that but I'm an optimist.

"If we keep producing performances like that, we'll be looking at the other end of the table for sure. Our target at the start of the season was to stay up, this was a learning process.

"We still need more points, but we've given ourselves a better chance of where we are at the moment to do that."
