Former Hereford United winger Dudley Tyler was back at Edgar Street yesterday to watch the Phoenix club take on Bradford (Park Avenue) and thought the visitors are going to be force in the league this season.
Tyler had two spells with Hereford United spanning nine years, spending a season and a half at West Ham United in between. His move to the London club in 1972 came after the Newcastle FA Cup victory and election to the Football League, with Hereford receiving a fee of £25,000, breaking the non-league record at the time.
But as for yesterday's game, the 73-year-old said Hereford had a few good chances but just didn't take them.
"Very disappointing result but I think Bradford (Park Avenue) are going to be quite a force in this league at the moment," said Tyler.
"They didn't give many goals away last season and it looks like they've got things set up the same sort of way this. They looked difficult to break down, although Hereford did have a few good chances today it was unfortunate that they couldn't convert all of them.
"Overall I think a draw would've been a fairer result, but they took their chances and we didn't."
It was the first time Tyler had seen the Bulls this season and said all the new signings who featured looked good, but winger Jordan Lam stood out.
"They looked good today, especially the lad down the left who looked like he'd got something to offer, something different, which may surprise a few sides in the league.
"There's still lots of folks around that I know, but they one thing I don't recognise is the surface out there - it's a lot greener than I remember when I played!
"It's always nice to come back, I always feel welcome."
