Luke Hopper Signs For Salisbury

After being linked with a move to Hereford, striker Luke Hopper has joined Southern League West side Salisbury.

Steve Claridge says he fought off competition from two clubs in higher leagues for the 28-year old's signature, who joins from National League South side Hungerford Town.

"He’s exactly what we need," Claridge told the club's website.

"He's big, strong and brave and a proven goalscorer at a higher level. I'm really excited by this signing. "I tried to get him last summer before we got Justin Bennett and Tommy Wright so we've been monitoring him for a while.

"He could have gone higher, and for more money, but he likes what we're trying to achieve here at Salisbury, he's based in Swindon and he was willing to take a significant drop in the money he was getting at Hungerford so it's a great bit of business all round."

Meanwhile BN received a bit of stick from Hereford manager Peter Beadle last night after publishing an article suggesting that Hopper had been linked to the club. The 'suggestion' had originally been posted on GloucestershireLive.

"Don't believe all you read in the papers," quipped Beadle.
