In a long article published on the OS, Hereford chairman Ken Kinnersley has spell out the clubs plans for the future of youth team football after the decision of UITC to cease operations shortly.
"We must now focus on the future though, and, more specifically, the interests of the young players, parents, guardians and coaches involved in UITC. It is the intention of the Hereford FC Board to do just this and I’m pleased to be able to say that Ruth Walkden, as Chair of UITC, has already given a clear indication of willing assistance during the transition period. We are very grateful to Ruth for her help."
Kinnersley accepts that the club were not prepared for UITC's decision and so a lot of work will need to be done in a short space of time.
"Our aim will be to ensure that the transition the academy teams make to being run under the banner of the club is a smooth as possible and that there is no impact on the football the youngsters currently play. We want to put in place a structure that works well in the short and longer term and although this will mean a lot of hard work, we are all up for it.
"I’d also like to make it clear that moving forward we have every intention of developing the work we do in the community – including in schools and with local clubs – in addition to putting an academy system in place. However, we hope people understand that the most immediate issue we need to address is ensuring that the age group teams we are taking on from UITC are able to continue to compete to the best of their abilities."
There is no mention in his statement about Central Park on which UITC have a long lease from the Herefordshire Council.
