Eliot Richards, who is set to sign for Hereford, has said the club showed interest in him before his release from Merthyr.
The midfielder made over 100 appearances for Bristol City before moving to Cheltenham in 2015, but two months later he was diagnosed with testicular cancer.
But since then he's been given the all clear and has gone on to play for Bath, Weston and Gloucester
Richards told BN: "I was very impressed by the vision the manager has for the club going forward and how the club look after the players.
"I had interest a few weeks ago about joining Hereford, and I received a few offers but thought it was the best option for me."
And briefly, what does he hope to achieve during his time at Edgar Street?
"I want to play well, and get promotion with the club this season."
Meanwhile Merthyr boss Gavin Williams has told the Hereford Times he believes Richards is one of the best players in the league.
