Last Thursday Hereford Historian Ron Parrott told BN told he would mention one of Hereford United's 'greatest claims to fame' in Saturday's match programme. And he did.
It was back in November 1952 that Hereford were drawn away at Leyton, not to be confused with Leyton Orient, in the first round of the FA Cup.
The crowd was just over 1,000 and there was no reward for winning the game.
Ron explains:
'The only consolation was that Hereford were to receive 25 guineas as their share of the TV rights for the BBC's live coverage of the game.
'Incidentally, the fact that Hereford took part in the first ever live nationwide televised FA Cup match is one of their greatest claims to fame.
'The BBC took two cameras to televise the game but hardly had a classic on their hands for their first live broadcast.
'Back in Hereford, reports of reception on the box were excellent and this more than compensated for the disappointment of being drawn away from home'.
The game was a 0-0 draw.
