Hereford 4 – Dorchester Town 1

Another Two Goals For John Mills
Two changes were forced on Hereford manager Pete Beadle ahead of this afternoon’s game at home to Dorchester Town. With Dara O’Shea away on International Duty, Jack Deaman returned to the heart of defence alongside Ryan Green, with Rob Purdie replacing the suspended Mike McGrath in midfield.

The Bulls found themselves under pressure early on as they defended the Meadow End in the first half. After Martin Horsell fumbled an initial shot, Phil Ormrod could only find the side-netting with the follow-up effort.

Dorchester then found themselves ahead with ten minutes on the clock, courtesy of an own-goal from Hereford’s captain. With Jimmy Oates under pressure to clear a cross ahead of David Jerrard, his diving header beat the keeper to gift the visitors the lead.

With Dorchester controlling the game, they had a handful of chances to double their lead. Firstly, Ormrod did well to beat his man, but his shot was easily gathered by Horsell. A chance for Jerrard followed, but he blazed his shot over the bar.

Hereford’s first real chance of the game came with 17 minutes on the clock. A quick break from Keyon Reffell released John Mills, but after cutting into the box from the right, his left-footed effort proved an easy save for the keeper.

A fairly solid first half performance from Dorchester limited Hereford’s chances going forward, with the hosts not really creating anything else before half time.

The second half started off slow, but Lance Smith was on hand to equalise 11 minutes after the restart. Smith’s shot from the edge of the area took a deflection as it looped over Dorchester’s stopper Chris Weale.

Then seven minutes later, things went from bad to worse for the ex-Hereford United keeper as Dorchester conceded a penalty. Garyn Preen picked out John Mills at the far post with his corner, and as the Hereford marksman looked to create himself a shooting opportunity, he was brought down by Phil Ormrod.

As ever, John Mills duly stepped up, firing the spot kick into the bottom-left hand corner of the net.

Keyon Reffell was next to get his name on the scoresheet, finding the back of the net after a great run. After intercepting a cross-field ball, Reffell burst forward with pace, slotting the ball diagonally past the static keeper.

John Mills then sealed Hereford’s ninth win on the bounce with his second goal of the game. Keyon Reffell played a neat ball into the box to Mills, and after a series of ‘chops’, he fired the ball across the face of goal and in at the far post.

Six minutes from time, substitute Adam Page came close making it 5-1. A long throw into the box from James Bowen eventually found its way to Page, but his rising shot was denied by the crossbar with Weale well-beaten.

A final chance for Lance Smith failed to beat the keeper, as his shot from an acute angle was well-held.
