Season Extension, What Extension?

In his post match interview Hereford FC manager Peter Beadle was asked about the confusion surrounding the end of the season.

"I know that looking at the table before the game tonight we had played 36 games as had Alvechurch, as had Khalsa.

"We've got a game every midweek and the League Cup semi-finals to come so that we've got two games on the Thursdays.

"So if we've only got 36 games played and so have them then why do we need to extend it so that's one midweek game between now and the end of the season.

"Yes there are one or two teams that have played a game less than us but then if that's the case why can't they play on Thursdays, why can't they play two games in the week.

"We played Thursday, Saturday, Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, never complained, just got on with it because that's the way the fixtures fell.

"So it's disappinting when they come out and say you can have an extra week. They should have told us that three weeks ago when we planning all these games.

"There was something going around about the League Cup semi final being one leg.Two or three teams complained about it only being one leg so they put it back to two legs. And then those two or three teams are not in the competition.

"If you're worried about fixture congestion, be more positive, make a decision and stick with it.

"To extend the season by a week now when we're only two weeks away from the end is ridiculous because all the games are pencilled in. You go through the fixture list on the Midland League website and everyone who has got games in hand are pencilled in between now and the end of the season. I don't see what the problem is.

"We've had to play five games in ten days, teams fighting relegation it shouldn't be any different for them either.

"We are going to do the same thing from Saturday, five games in nine days.

"So I don't see why they've come out with it now."
