Rocester Keen To Earn Cup Money

Saturday's opponents Rocester earned a £1,500 payday last night as they beat Boldmere 4-0 to progress in the FA Cup.

Manager Mark Wilson told The Sentinel that the Cup money was welcome as he needed every penny he could find: "There is a lot of pressure on clubs such as ourselves do well because of the financial rewards. I don't have a big budget at Rocester, so any money we can bring into the club helps."

The Romans had lost both their league outings, to Stourport and Heanor, before beating Boldmere - another side yet to score a point - after a replay:

"We were unlucky in those opening two games against Stourport and Heanor and should have got something from both of them, but I knew we had a big result in us and it all came together on Tuesday night."

The Romans had been goalless in their two league matches, but netted seven times across 180 minutes of Cup football to earn a tie against local rivals Leek Town in the next round.

In other FA Cup replays last night Walsall Wood lost 3-1 at home to Hinckley, and Continental Star won 3-1 at Bolehall Swifts. On Monday night Coventry Sphinx beat Lye Town 2-1 after extra time.
