Wellington 2-4 Hereford

Hereford made the short trip up the A49 to play local side Wellington. Manager Peter Beadle was absent on a pre arranged holiday, so Matt Bishop took charge. Hereford changed the starting line up again with a couple of players who came off the bench on Saturday starting. Hereford fielded a new trialist by the name of Adam Page. Page is a 18 year old midfielder who most recently has been playing for Cheltenham’s youth team.

Hereford started brightly and within 5 minutes Sam Pearson had a shot that was saved by the Wellington keeper. Pearson was again involved a few minutes later when he crossed a ball into the box only for the Wellington keeper to punch it away. Wellington started to threaten and got a shot away that was saved by Lovett. Hereford again started to threaten and Adam Page tried to get a shot away only to see it blocked by a Wellington player. In the 11th minute Sam Pearson put the ball in the net but it was ruled out for offside.

Wellington should have taken the lead in the 13th minute but Matt Aubrey put the ball over the crossbar from a few yards out. Wellington then had another attempt but it was blocked and put out for a corner. Hereford started to threaten down the wing with Joel Edwards and Sam Hunt putting in good crosses but Wellington dealt with them. As the first half drew to a close both Pearson and James had shots with Pearson seeing his saved while James hit his shot over the bar.

Half Time: Wellington 0-0 Hereford

Hereford, as they did in the first half, started brightly and within 5 minutes of the restart Dan Mcdonald had a goal disallowed for offside. A few minutes later Pearson and Page linked up with Page scoring from close range. Two minutes after taking the lead Hereford again threatened the Wellington goal with Pearson finishing to make it 2-0.

Wellington started to come back in to the game and a few minute later Josh Hunt went around Lovett and slotted the ball in to the empty net to make it 2-1.

Hereford again start to threaten and some more good link up play lead to a shot from Sam Hunt that beat the Wellington goalkeeper to put Hereford 3-1. Around 5 minutes after the third goal Wellington played a ball in to the box and a Hereford player pushed a Wellington player which saw referee Chris Smith pointing to the spot.

Wellington scored the resulting penalty and they started to push for an equaliser and came close with former Hereford trialist Adam Newbury putting his effort wide.

Hereford made several substitutes and one of those substitutes Nathan Hughes finished the game with a close range shot that crossed the line before being cleared by a Wellington player. The goal was given by the referee following discussion with his assistants.
