Reaction From Beadle To Hereford Win

Peter Beadle At Edgar Street This Afternoon
Peter Beadle spoke to the press after this afternoon's game at Edgar Street.

"Obviously the talk was about the occasion,"said the Hereford FC manager.

"But we knew in the changing room it was about us.

"Another training session if you like, another progression from Tuesday.

"We tried to go about it in the right manner. We knew that playing champions we would be in for a rough ride and would spend lots of time without the ball, as it was today first half.

"But what was really pleasing was how they dug in and stuck with it and didn't give up and eventually I thought last ten minutes of the first half going into the second half we certainly got on top a little bit and got a bit more possession.

"Great delivery for the cross and fortunately for us we got a lucky bounce and managed to poke one in.

"We had a few good deliveries, Rob had a couple from corners and we had one in the first half towards Sam when the ball stuck on the dry surface.

"And the good thing is we've done very little on structured play, it's been more physical work for training and game work.

"Because we've got so many numbers it's been hard to work on team shape at the moment.

"We are still trying to find out about players so it's fitness work, small sided games to get their fitness levels up and then watch them in the games.

"For them to play like they did today again given they've hardly played together at all was fantastic."

Goalkeeper Harvey Rivers was named man of the match.

"He did okay. He's got some work to do, he's a young prospect, he's got lots of talent, and I've known him for a long time.

"He's going to be pushed this year, he's going to be worked hard because there's more to come from him.

"These last two games he's shown what quality he's got.

"Man of the match was probably the worst thing for him today, we'll see what he's like on Tuesday. We'll bring his feet down quickly.

"He wants to be here and he's done well again today but it's about progression."

FCUM entered into the spirit both on and off the field.

"Their fans they never stopped singing which was great.

"The team they played, they went about it the right way, they wanted to win the game which was great for us because it was competitive. They played in the right spirit.

"First half was pretty much their team from last year and yes they had lots of possession and yes we had a few scares but we pretty much stuck with it for as long as we could.

"Second half with the changes like us lots of trialists and we took a foothold in the second half but credit to them they could have come for a day out but they didn't, they played properly.

"We've got players in our squad that are quite versatile. Certain players can play in one system and certain that can play in others and some that can play in any system.

"So that was why we changed it a bit in the second half with four changes, we only made six changes altogether but I wanted to give as many of boys as long as I could.

"Those that came off the bench will play Tuesday so it will probably a completely different eleven so they get their opportunity to play.

"Joel Edwards (didn't start) had a dead leg and quite a nasty one. I know how desperate he was to play today but we've got to be cautious. But it had a bang on it today it would have put him back two weeks. Hopefully he'll be okay for Saturday which will be another tough game."

Beadle was then asked about the 'event'.

"Unbelievable, just after they did the warm-up the lads went did a half-lap. I said to Matt Bishop look at my arm all the hairs on my arm had stood up.

"You can't ask for any more than that.

"It's a lovely day, it didn't rain, the sun was half out, a great game to watch.

"But the occasion itself will overshadow the game and I've got no problem with that.

"I'm pleased for the fans that came and hopefully they'll keep coming back now.

"These local boys are okay so let's got back and have another look and let's support them because the boys didn't leave anything in the locker, they gave it their all and that's all anyone can ask."

Nathan Hughes scored the goal.

"He's a Gloucester boy. He was at Cheltenham last year in the development centre but he's come in and done extremely well.

"He's taken his chance today and got his goal. He's more than happy and I was happy with the way he played. He'll probably start on Tuesday."
