People in Herefordshire who are not physically active in their daily lives can benefit from an award from Sport England’s Get Healthy, Get Active fund. Herefordshire Council applied for the grant to promote the health benefits of physical activity and to grow the counties sport provision in order to encourage people to become more active.
The funding, which will be delivered over a three year period builds on a wealth of evidence showing that an active life is essential for physical and mental health and wellbeing and will link to the Diabetes prevention programme, led by the Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG).
Cllr Patricia Morgan, cabinet member health and wellbeing said, “This is a welcome boost for the people of Herefordshire, enabling those who most need it to access opportunities to take part in sport to improve health on a very local level.
One of the council’s objectives is to ensure that our residents live longer, healthier lives and this extra money will allow us to extend the existing services to our residents so that we can reach more people in need.”
