Less Parking At Merton Meadow

With work starting on the new link road across Hereford there will be less parking available at Merton Meadow close to Edgar Street, the home of Hereford FC.

This from Herefordshire Council:

Left to right, Councillor Paul Rone - cabinet member transport and roads, Cllr Tony Johnson – Leader of Herefordshire Council and Councillor Phillip Price – cabinet member infrastructure at Merton Meadow car park
The construction of the City Link Road is one step closer as Balfour Beatty Living Places begins the demolition of buildings on the route of the new road.

Councillor Tony Johnson, leader of the council said, “I am pleased that the construction phase is imminent. The new road unlocks vital development land to supply much needed city centre housing.

Once developed, the whole site including the development of the Old Market will have brought hundreds of new jobs and hundreds of new homes to the city.

Another benefit of the new road will be the alleviation of some of the traffic from Hereford's inner ring road. Eventually this will enable Newmarket and Blueschool Streets to be upgraded for easier pedestrian movement.”

Once demolition begins the overflow area of the Merton Meadow Car Park will need to be cordoned off (from May onwards) for the storage of plant and materials. There is sufficient space at other city car parks to compensate for this.

Construction of the road will begin in autumn 2015 after demolition is complete and the construction of the road is expected to be finished in approximately 18 months.
