Wellington Serve Up Goal Feast

Sometimes you know the type of club you're at when the first tannoy announcement when you get to the ground announced that there is a brace of pheasants in the dressing rooms, available for a donation to the club.

With most local football decimated by the weather, it was off to the very welcoming Wellington for their West Midlands Regional League match with Cradley Town. £4 entry gave eleven goals with the home side running out 7-4 winners on a pitch best described as heavy.

The home side led three times by half time, pegged back twice thanks to some sloppy defending, but surged away in the second half to put the game beyond doubt despite conceding two more late on.

Plenty of Edgar Street regulars were in attendance, as well as a pair of groundhoppers from Bolton. It was their 85th game of the season.

The next local match is on Tuesday night at allpay.park, when Westfields take on Pegasus Juniors in the Herefordshire Challenge Cup. Westfields are also at home on Saturday when they entertain league leaders Long Eaton United in the Midland Football League.
