Goals, Goals, Goals

Steve Guinan Leading Out the Hereford Fans Starting XI
This afternoon Hereford United Supporters Team turned out at their Old School Lane home to face a Walsall Legends side which included ex-Bulls Andy Reece and Mark Taylor. There was a reasonable crowd in attendance for what was a fairly chilly Autumn afternoon, the game was watched by ex-Hereford utility man Rob Purdie.

One Up For The Bulls
The game started positively for the Bulls with skipper Steve Guinan having a number of early chances; the ex-Hereford man managed to set up Hereford’s first goal of the afternoon. After receiving the ball from Eli Drury he whipped in a cross from the right wing to the onrushing Lucas Kirby who had no trouble in putting the ball in the back of the net.

Walsall were quick to make a comeback when a cross from their number 9 allowed number 16 could loop the ball overtop of United’s keeper to pull the sides back level.

Steve Guinan also set up Hereford’s second when, from the left, he crossed to Poochi Poetsch at the far post who had the simple task of side footing the ball over the line.

Chris Oleksy
Three more chances for the Bulls followed before the break, the first came from Chris Oleksy but his effort was parried and then gathered by Walsall’s stopper. The second from the skipper; after beating his man he carried the ball into the box, but unfortunately his shot was wide of the upright. Finally, a long free kick from Bulls left back Poetsch into the box meant Will Morrall had space to take a shot, but the keeper did well to tip the ball over the bar for a fruitless corner.

HT: Hereford 2 - Walsall 1

Almost straight after the restart Hereford were able to increase their lead when substitute Tom Wales released Steve Guinan to put the ball all too easily past the helpless Walsall keeper.

Guinan continued to almost single handedly control the game, when yet again he was the reason for another one of United’s goals. A long ball from him up to Tyler Weir on the wing allowed him to whip in a cross to Wayne Milner who had the simple task of scoring although his shot was miscued he managed to keep the ball eventually bundling the ball over the line, as well as himself.

Tyler Weir Scored Hereford's Fifth Goal
Yet again it was Hereford United old boy who was involved in setting up the Bulls fifth goal of the game, after he held the ball up before passing it to the onrushing number Weir who easily slipped the ball past the keeper.

The knowledge of the 38 year old was what gave Hereford the advantage in the game and it was clear he has not lost the class he had whilst at Hereford. He managed to cut in from the left and set up Milner for his 2nd goal of the game.

Steve Guinan
Walsall did manage to grab a goal back before their keeper did well to prevent Hereford’s 7th. Wayne Milner's initial shot was parried, but his follow up effort was caught by the Walsall stopper. Minutes later though Hereford did grab another goal when Steve Guinan put 5 through who crossed to Poetsch for him make the score 7-2.

The Saddlers team grabbed two more goals before Hereford’s Tom Wales converted from 15 yards. Walsall rounded off an entertaining afternoon with their 5th goal of the game.
