United slipped to their first home defeat of the season by two goals to nil, with both goals scored by Aldershot’s number 9, Brett Williams.

Hereford started brightly and looked in positive mood. Bulls’ debutant Richard Brodie linked well with his new team mates and he had two good chances one of which was saved and the other went wide.

Sam Smith In The Shots Penalty Area
On 13 minutes, Luke Graham played the ball back to Rob Purdie from a congested Aldershot penalty area. The shot from 25 yards was too high to trouble Aldershot keeper, Morris’ goal.  Former Bull, Craig Stanley played the ball towards Williams who was running into the Hereford penalty area. Indecision by Hereford’s centre defence and goalkeeper ended when Williams managed to touch the ball past Rhys Evans and the rolled it into the unguarded net.

After this, Aldershot gained confidence; Stanley and Rowlands began to have much more influence in midfield.  Brodie received a ball on the edge of the 18 yard box he got a shot away but cleared the bar.
Overall, Hereford had the better chances in the first period and should really have scored in the first 10 minutes.

HT: Hereford 0 – Aldershot 1

With rain still pouring onto the newly laid, well drained pitch, both teams emerged from the tunnel unchanged.  Dan Walker made a run up the wing and sent a great cross in which was met with a glancing header from Michael West which beat the keeper but unluckily didn’t beat the crossbar.

Michael West Fending Off Former Bull Craig Stanley
Just when it looked like United were building up a head of steam Craig Stanley set up the second goal as he sent a hopeful ball right through Hereford’s frozen defensive line. Williams ran onto the ball and was left with acres of space and only the goalkeeper to beat. He struck the ball from 15 yards to double Aldershot’s lead but only after the referee and linesman consulted each other as it did look that Williams may have been offside.

Sam Smith Tries To Get Through Oyeleke
Chris Sharp was introduced for Chris Bush and straight away made an impact. A good run up the left saw him break into the penalty area and played the ball across to Sam Smith, whose first shot was well saved. But from the rebound he managed to miss the goal completely when he really should have done better.

Despite West coming off for Jon Brown and Hereford getting more balls into the box, they rarely threatened. Aldershot were happy to see the game out for 3 points.

FT: Hereford 0 – Aldershot 2

On tonight’s showing, Aldershot look a decent outfit and you can see why they’ve wiped out their 10 point deficit lifting themselves off the bottom of the table; although, if Hereford had taken their numerous chances in the first 10 minutes, it would’ve been a totally different outcome.
