Oxford's Supporters Trust, OxVox, have used the law to protect the club's Kassam Stadium home.
The stadium has become the first football ground to be classed as a Community Asset under the 2011 Localism Act. The move means the ground cannot be sold without notice, and the Trust can now invoke a six month moratorium on any potential sale in order to formulate their own bid for the site.
The Kassam Stadium remains in the ownership of former Oxford owner Firoz Kassam, who still benefits from much of the ancillary income generated on matchdays.
Other Trusts are seeking similar listings for their own grounds, with Trusts at both Liverpool and Manchester United seeking protection.
