News Round-Up

Portsmouth are edging closer to a resolution of their wage problems after agreeing a settlement with Tal Ben Haim over his £30,000 a week deal. His departure leaves only Liam Lawrence still contracted to the club, who has said he will agree a settlement by tomorrow's deadline if he fails to agree a contract elsewhere - but they will still face Kanu's £2million wage claim at a tribunal. Their Supporters have also been granted a £1.45million bridging loan from the local council, meaning their bid is capable of progressing.

Port Vale's players have been offered updated contracts to the end of the coming season. The Administrator says the offer will mean the club can guarantee to the Football League that they can finish the season despite not having sealed a sale, adding that if no buyer is found by the end of the season the club will have no choice but to fold. The Valiants may yet be forced to play only their five contracted players and youth teamers in their League Cup match unless the players agree to their new contracts.

Kidderminster have named Exodus Geoghaghon as their captain for the coming season. Stockport have signed keeper Lewis King on non-contract terms. King played five times on loan at Edgeley Park at the end of last season before being released by Sunderland.

Gillingham say they are still considering whether to appeal against the findings of a tribunal into the Mark McCammon race claims, with chairman Paul Scally calling the decision 'bizarre'. The tribunal's decision included findings that the club's staff had colluded in their preparation of witness statements and evidence.
