Dan Hanford will make his first start for Hereford United next Friday against Macclesfield. The 21 year old goalkeeper has featured in every pre-season match bar one and gets his chance as James Bittner is still unfit.
"When Adam Bartlett left, I was looking for an opportunity and unfortunately for James he's injured and that's given me a chance which I'm going to take," said Hanford as reported by the Worcester News.
"It's worked out well for me at the moment but hopefully James will be back in training soon and there will be some competition."
With Bittner unavailable, part-time keeper coach Dan Connor will probably be in the squad. Connor played for the full 90 minutes against Westfields last Tuesday just in case he might be needed.
"I like Dan," said Hanford.
"He pushes me and works on my weaknesses as well as my strengths and I'll be looking to improve a lot more."
Hanford kept a clean sheet last night against a Bristol City XI.
