Nasty clash of heads forces early end to Evesham game

Players receiving treatment
This evening’s match at Evesham was brought to an abrupt end when Chris Curruthers and Greg Tindle suffered a clash of heads when both going for the same high ball.

The Bulls had started brightly with Jonathan Brown sending over a measured cross from the left which was cleared at the expense of a corner.  The flag kick came to nothing as Pell was penalised for a foul.  Former Bull Neil Mackenzie floated a ball towards Agbor wide on the left but Odhiambo intercepted.  Mackenzie then sent a free kick straight into the safe arms of Hanford.  Luke Corbett and Leigh Downing combined well to send the former away clear but Hanford was quickly out to clear and when Tindle upended Corbett, Mackenzie’s free kick went wide of the target.

Harry Pell burst forward from midfield to feed McQuilkin but his pull-back from the byeline was headed over by Macklin.  Curruthers and Brown combined well on the left to release Macklin.  The former Torquay man turned the ball inside to Pell played Canham in but the strikers effort was weak and straight at Thomas in the home goal.

There was, again, wholesale changes at the break.  A couple of crosses from the right saw Marley Watkins and Clucas both send headers just wide before Hanford showed good anticipation to gather a dangerous cross from Agbor.  Watkins went on a mazy run across the Evesham box finishing with a shot which was blocked and from the upfield clearance, Curruthers and Tindle collided in the incident that brought the game to a halt around a quarter of an hour into the second period.

Not a particularly satisfactory situation but both players eventually got to their feet and walked from the pitch.
