Bobbly Pitch Makes Judgements Hard

An exceptionally bobbly pitch made assessing the trialists hard at Evesham last night.

Full back Eddie Odhiambo had a torrid time from Evesham winger Roland Agbor after having little difficulty nulling the threat from Yeovil on Saturday. Chris Carruthers worked well down the left side before his unfortunate accidental clash with teammate Greg Tindle.

Central Defender Tindle, a former Oxford trainee, was not identified from Saturday's trialists. The 23 year old is seeking out a full time deal after spending the last few years at Chippenham, but he struggled to cope with the unpredictable bounce of the pitch that also caught Stefan Stam out on occasions.

Winger Jonathan Brown showed glimpses of his pace, being a former Welsh schools 100m champion, but again the pitch meant control at such speed was difficult. Similarly striker Lloyd Macklin, presumably playing the last of his reported two game trial, showed more of a threat and interest but the bobbles allowed Evesham's defence to dispossess him at key moments.

In the second half Marley Watkins again proved to be a standout performer in his brief appearance, while striker Dan Smith also suggested there is something to offer.

On the Evesham side, veteran ex-Bull Neil Mackenzie pulled the strings in midfield like the old pro he is, but was probably narrowly pipped by tricky winger Agbor as their outstanding player.
