Former Bulls captain Tony James has left Burton Albion after meeting newly installed manager Gary Rowett this morning.
The defender, 33, played 172 times for the Brewers after a brief spell at Weymouth following his Edgar Street release. He played 279 times for the Bulls during his eight year stay, and in a month long spell during the opening weeks of Jamie Pitman's reign.
Manager Rowett told the club's official site: "I've released Tony with a bit of a heavy heart I suppose because I really like him as a person and a character but I feel we need to move on and improve that area of the pitch."
Also leaving the Brewers are Ryan Austin, Adam Boulder, and Greg Pearson. Defender Austin spent eight years at the club, midfielder Boulder spent two years at the Pirelli after a spell at Millwall, and striker Pearson had spells on loan at Aldershot at Crewe this term.
Meanwhile, former loanee Lyle Taylor has been released by Bournemouth. The 22 year old scored twice in eight games for the Bulls, but failed to add to his account on his return to Dean Court.
