Mike Margetts made the trip to Barnet. Here is his view:
No doubt like many Hereford United fans who live far away from Edgar Street, I keep in touch with events mainly via this website, newspaper reports and video clips on TV. So far this season it has, of course, been a depressing business.
Perhaps in the faint hope that it can’t really be ‘that bad’ I decided yesterday to make the 150 mile round trip from East Sussex to north London to see for myself.
And, yes, it was truly awful. As detailed in ex-Landlord’s match report, there was not a single shot on goal in the first half and except for a brief period after the break, Hereford were never at the races. That their fate was eventually sealed by a farcical goal worthy of the Keystone Cops seemed entirely appropriate.
So what’s wrong? It seems pretty much everything. There is no guile, no imagination and, possibly worst of all, precious little belief. I couldn’t name one player who looked comfortable on the ball or, indeed, who even wanted it.
What we currently have is a shambles and unless Messrs Keyte and Russon can sort it out pretty quickly, this time next year we could well be following a team struggling to hold its own in the Blue Square Bet Premier League.
