The Bulls travel to Sixfields to face fellow strugglers Northampton in League Two on Saturday.
The two sides have been regular combatants in the League over the years with this being the 20th season the two sides have been in the same division. Only one of those seasons was outside the bottom flight, when both sides were relegated out of League One two seasons ago. Last term the away side was victorious in both games between the sides, with the Bulls winning at Sixfields 3-1 with Darren Jones, Mathieu Manset, and Craig King scoring.
The Cobblers are enduring another disappointing season. After last season's dismal effort they were hoping, and were expected by the bookies, to be a much stronger force this term however they find themselves in 22nd place after three straight losses and only one goal in that time. Kevin Thornton and Billy McKay have four goals each, and they are twice as likely to score at home than away. None of the three ex-Bulls in their squad are expected to start the game with Dean Beckwith suspended and Steve Guinan and Nathaniel Wedderburn both warming the bench in recent weeks.
The Bulls travel cross-country with good hopes for a second away win of the season. The renewed confidence the squad has under Jamie Pitman's guidance has brought about greatly improved performances from that of the previous regime. With Sean Canham suspended the opportunity arises for one of the forwards to stake a claim in his absence. Sam Malsom has been the only forward option on the bench in the last two games and may head the chase, or Pitman may prefer to have another Canham-like target man and bring the Beast back into the XI.
Northampton Town vs Hereford United, Sixfields, Saturday 16th October, 3.00pm.
