Although Jamie Pitman has said he isn't interested in managing Hereford United on a permanent basis, or at least not yet, other physios have found themselves in the top job.
This afternoon Southampton play Tranmere and both managers were former physios.
They are Nigel Atkins and Les Parry. Pitman has now become a member, albeit perhaps only for a short while at present, of this exclusive club.
Parry's transition from physio to manager is interesting in that he took over when relegation threatened Tranmere.
Chairman Peter Johnson sacked John Barnes and put long-serving physio Parry in temporary charge of Tranmere one year ago.
At the time he told Parry to run first-team affairs until he had appointed a "proper manager".
However Parry kept the job and guided Tranmere to another year in League One.
Talking to BBC Sport, Parry revealed how he had watched managers over the years.
"I listened to 900 or so pre-match and half-time team talks, I watched a manager prepare for a game 900 times and listened to him on the bench, observing why and when he made changes," said Parry.
"Throw in my involvement with reserve games and that is probably 1,500 games. In many ways, I am not equipped to be a manager but, then again, I cannot think of anyone else with that type and volume of exposure."
Parry is a glutton for work. As well as being a manager last July he graduated from John Moores University. If he lost his job as manager he could become a lecturer.
Whilst Pitman will not have listened to anywhere near 900 pre-match talks, he has had a good grounding working with Jimmy Harvey at Forest Green and latterly Graham Turner, John Trewick and Simon Davey at Hereford.
In time he may well become a permanent member of the club. Getting something out of this afternoon's game with Port Vale might help.
