Hereford United chairman David Keyte is due to return from a visit to China today. No doubt he will have been kept informed of proceedings at Northampton yesterday and like many other supporters who didn't/couldn't go yesterday probably wished he had been able to witness one of the best comebacks in the history of the Bulls.
On his return he will reflect on what to do about the vacant managers position at Edgar Street.
Should he offer the job to a manager with League Two experience or should he stick with Jamie Pitman who in truth has little experience but has already put the heart and soul back into the squad. Pitman also appears to have a good assistant in Russell Hoult. A dream team in the making?
There is also a view that as Pitman has taken over with a ready assembled squad, one of the hardest tasks of being a manager, that of signing players, doesn't apply at present.
Against that, if in a couple of weeks time results are not going Pitman's way, would he have the contacts in the game to bring in a few loan players. In truth, probably not.
A manager with experience would/should have those contacts. But then bringing in such a manager, whoever he might be, could produce a period of uncertainty whilst the squad adapts to a new regime.
The view that 'if it isn't broke don't fix it' may be the best way to go for the time being.
In other words why not keep Pitman in charge for at least three more games and take stock then. Or if Keyte thinks that really is too much of a gamble, appoint a part-time director of football basically to advise Pitman.
