On the Tuesday after Simon Davey was sacked at Barnsley, The Guardian ran an article accusing the Tykes of acting too fast in dismissing him after five games of the new season.
They called him innovative and a victim of his own successes with FA Cup wins over Chelsea and Liverpool. The fans, in the comments section, had their own opinions:
"There was nothing 'innovative' about his style of play, signings (loans or otherwise) or his relationship with the fans. This last point is what ultimately did for him, he resorted to blaming players and made lame excuses for poor performances regularly. I hope he learns from this."
"Surely a responsible manager should have been on the pitch ordering his players to get down the tunnel with him rather than scurrying off on his own to hide?"
And to claims that the home fans sang "It's just like watching Brazil":
"Really? And which five minute segment of which game was that? While we'll always be thankful for the epic victory against Chelsea and the brave, but somewhat lucky, result against Liverpool, most of the games under Davey were much more like the semi-final defeat against Cardiff -lacklustre, clueless and tactically inept and inflexible."
