Accrington are reported to have lost nearly £300,000 in the 08/09 season. They have published their delayed accounts, lifting their transfer embargo in the process. The accounts also adjust the 07/08 loss to over £450,000, nearly doubling the original figure, with debts totalling nearly £1.1million in May 2009. Most of that is now owed to benefactor Ilyas Khan who has put nearly £1million into the club. They expect to have lost around £200,000 for last season despite a significant increase in gates.
Port Vale chairman Bill Bratt says he is unhappy that investor Mike Newton has broken their confidentiality agreement by telling fans about his plans. Crewe have denied receiving a bid from any club for winger Joel Grant after Shrewsbury were claimed to have made an £80,000 bid. Striker Clayton Donaldson is a doubt for the season opener with a knee injury. He hasn't trained since being withdrawn on Saturday.
Accrington have signed former Macclesfield defender Sean Hessey and ex-Bradford defender Jonathan Bateson.
