More from the Bulls Phone-in.

A number of interesting questions on this evening's BBC H&W phone-in brought good replies from both Hereford United vice-chairman Tim Russon and manager Simon Davey.

Davey said he had named Saturday's team for Crewe.

Asked why he had gone for 4-3-3 system Davey firstly talked about the recruitment of his player.

"What I've tried to do is recruit players, not players for a system."

Why has Kovacs been made captain?

"I wanted somebody who leads by example on the pitch. It was a hard decision but I thought Janos would have more influence on the pitch."

Trevor Owens noted that Hereford has a physically bigger squad this season.

"The teams that really did well in League Two last season had big players," replied Davey.

"If we come up against teams that are big we can compete. We've got great characters in there with winning mentalities. We've got experience, we've got height, we've got presence, we've got technical ability.

"So whatever teams can throw at us, I think we can match them."

The squad is now 19 strong and Davey reiterated his view that the 20th player could come from the Hereford locality.

"It will probably be a young lad who maybe has come out of the Hereford area. Something I'm looking to do to get a bit of identity back into the football club from the local community."

Tim Russon confirmed Hereford had budgeted on a figure of 2,500 which would be 400 more than last season.

"We've done our sums for this season on getting more people through the gates.

"I think we will be very disappointed if we don't get an average of around 2,500

"We're hopeful we can give Simon a bit more money to spend on the squad."

Mathieu Manset is 21 today and one fan asked what would happen if the Beast had scored ten goals by the transfer window and the club received a bid for him.

"We want to keep all our players together," said Davey. "He's a player with massive potential.

"What I've seen in pre-season we could have a really good player on our hands."

Russon agreed.

"We're not going to give players away especially someone like Manset who could have a huge future in the game."
