In an earlier article today BN noted that the Edgar Street Grid was in effect no more and a new company Hereford Futures Limited had been set up.
Council leader Roger Phillips was interviewed about the decision on BBC Hereford and Worcester.
"Hopefully it's massive step forward to make sure we are doing everything for the whole of Hereford.
"And we must be realistic about the future. We know there is going to be less public money about. We know we are going to have to get the private sector involved and get business on-side.
"Hereford failed in the past when they didn't get the business community on its side and getting its act together with the rest of us.
"This is what we've got to make sure we do this time."
Under the ESG plan new stores were destined for the cattle market area, now it appears the plan is for new stores there and in the existing shopping area. However the development company Stanhope only has control of the cattle market area and they are currently trying to attract stores only to that area.
Meanwhile former ESG chief Jonathan Bretherton is to become chief executive of Hereford Futures Limited. And according to ESG documents there are some 15 board members, three of whom have been appointed in recent weeks.
When interviewed Bretherton denied money had been waisted on the ESG project.
"Well no, not at all. The ESG part of the project will carry on. But we've now got a very much wider brief which is really exciting."
And Phillips admitted that the council had been swayed by the level of opposition to the ESG plans.
"What they said was they wanted greater emphasis on the whole city. They were worried ESG were taking all the limelight."
