News Round Up

The Huddersfield Daily Examiner says Lionel Ainsworth is Shrewsbury bound but fails to give any credible evidence, opening the article with 'Lionel Ainsworth is being strongly linked with a move to Shrewsbury.' Oxford recorded a £700,000 profit last term thanks to the sell on clause held on current Stoke defender Dean Whitehead, who they sold in 2004. Without it, they would have made just £9,000.

Cheltenham boss Mark Yates is hoping to find the money to sign defender Steve Elliott after the player appeared to lower his wage expectations, but not sufficiently to come inside the club's budget. Gillingham have confirmed the sale of Simeon Jackson to Norwich for an undisclosed sum. They have received Canaries striker Cody McDonald on loan for the season as part of the deal.

Carlisle have refused to comment after being accused by Workington of reneging on the agreed deal over the transfer of keeper Adam Collin. Workington chief Humphrey Dobie says the two clubs agreed a £10,000 fee for Collin, plus 25% sell on, but the Evostik League side received just £2,500 and have been told they will get no more with the Cumbrians pleading poverty. Grays will be put in the Ryman One North league, one division lower than they hoped following their demotion from the Conference.

The Conference is to receive a £2million a year 'solidarity payment' from the Premier League for the next three seasons. Despite their recent takeover, Cardiff's finances don't appear to be any better. Charlton have reported them to the League over an unpaid £500,000 installment for defender Mark Hudson, while players have been asked to defer bonus payments after last month's wages were paid late. They remain under a transfer embargo.

Portsmouth will remain under an embargo after the taxman lodged an appeal over their agreed CVA, saying they were owed far more than was included in the CVA. Former Bull Sam Hewson has left Bury after a trial. Also leaving the Shakers is fellow trialist Simon Whaley.

Shrewsbury have signed Bristol Rovers winger Mark Wright on a six month loan. Graham Turner says he tried to sign the 28 year old ex-Walsall and MK Dons man while he was with the Bulls.
