Port Vale are to continue talks over the next week with an investor ready to put £400,000 into the club, with their financial records for the last season likely to show a significant six-figure loss.

Gillingham have announced that they have reached a settlement with former boss Mark Stimson over the remainder of his contract. The Gills did not play striker Simeon Jackson in last night's friendly win over Dartford after Norwich were reported to have made a substantial bid for the player. Torquay have agreed a new one year deal with keeper Scott Bevan, and say they will consider a contract offer to winger Wayne Carlisle when he gets fit.

Ex-Bull Tim Sills scored the only goal as Stevenage beat Yeovil last night. Accrington fielded 14 trialists in their draw with Clitheroe last night. Among them was former Bulls trialist Marc Manga. Lewis Young is now on trial at Burton, playing and scoring in their 5-2 win over Mickleover Sports. Former Bulls keeper Craig Samson has joined SPL side St Mirren after leaving relegated First Division side Ayr.

Neath have confirmed the signing of Lee Trundle. He, and fellow big money signing Kristian O'Leary, will debut for the club later this week against former club Swansea. Accrington hope to have their transfer embargo lifted this week as they complete the late filed accounts. They have just four contracted players at present, and failed to pay their players on time last month due to cashflow problems.

Stockport are reported to have pulled out of a deal to sign Peterboro defender Exodus Geoghaghon after Jim Gannon changed his mind over taking on the manager's job. Barnet have signed Nottm Forest midfielder Mark Byrne on loan until January. The 21 year old spent last season with Rushden.

Wycombe defender Adam Hinshelwood has had to retire at the age of 26 due to a knee injury. He made just 118 League starts in eight years due to a series of injuries and was warned he may do further damage to the knee if he tried to continue. Chester have had a second friendly cancelled on Police advice, with their trip to Airbus UK on July 20th also scrapped.
