He played 90 minutes in their match with Kidsgrove last night with the club looking for a new left back. Morecambe have signed youngster James Spencer on a six month loan from Huddersfield. The 18 year old striker's only first team action so far was for Northwich last January, scoring once in seven games.

Cheltenham have former Bristol Rovers defender Steve Elliott in training but he is unlikely to sign due to wage demands. He asked to train with the club as a favour. Bradford's new striker signing, Jake Speight, has shocked the club after being jailed for 12 weeks for assault. No-one at the club knew he was due in court when they spent £25,000 on him, and he will now miss the start of the season. The Bantams say they will not pay him while he is in prison.

In contrast to the four-figure contracts being thrown around like confetti in the Conference, Histon boss John Beck says the most he can offer a player for the coming season is £125 a week. Former Stockport Chief Executive Mark Maguire has been appointed to a similar role at Hull. He is credited by a number of Hatters fans for keeping the club running after it fell into Administration.

Torquay are expected to sign striker Martin Gritton on loan from Chesterfield after he trained with the Plainmoor club yesterday. The 32 year old scored 26 times for the club in a two year spell that ended six years ago. Barnet have given up on trying to tempt striker John O'Flynn to stay with the club, with it being reported that he has gone on tour with Bristol City's first team.

Colchester chairman Robbie Cowling has dismissed speculation that the club are in financial trouble after posting a £3.5million loss for the 08/09 season - their first in their new stadium. Chester's proposed friendly with Rhyl on Saturday has been cancelled by the Police after Chester's opening game with Colwyn Bay was marred by violence.

Ex-Bull Martyn Giles has been charged by UEFA after Lanelli's stormy match in Lithuania last week. Three players were sent off and twelve booked, while Giles was charged over an incident after the match. Lanelli, who had two sent off, have also been charged as a club with improper conduct. Crewe are reported to have offered Burton full back Aaron Webster a contract. He is still mulling over the Brewers' offer.

Former Bull Jon Brady has lost his assistant boss Ray Warburton after he opted to take a coaching role with Northampton. Brady has got his expensive striker signing, after having his £1,000 a week offer to Stefan Moore rejected, by signing former Exeter bruiser Steve Basham. Neath have confirmed the signing of Kristian O'Leary, but have yet to announce the capture of Lee Trundle.

Accrington will field a dozen trialists in their opening pre-season friendly tonight. Most of them are teenagers released from other local sides although 31 year old former Tranmere striker Andy Parkinson, who spent last season with Cambridge and Gateshead, is also there. Rotherham striker Ryan Taylor is likely to be out for the rest of 2010 after breaking a bone in his foot during training. The Millers say they will look for a loan striker to cover for him.

Gillingham are chasing former Spurs and Southampton veteran Chris Perry. The 37 year old defender is wanted after Darren Dennehy opted to join Barnet. Torquay have lost the services of winger Wayne Carlisle after the 30 year old failed to agree a new deal with the club. He scored ten goals in 61 games over two seasons at Plainmoor after joining the club from Exeter.

Southend have cancelled the contract of keeper Steve Mildenhall, with the stopper joining Millwall on a one year deal. Mildenhall asked for a transfer last month, with the club saying his wages were 'prohibitive for a team in League Two'.
