Southend are claimed, by the Daily Mail, to be on the verge of a player walkout over unpaid wages. Their only friendly played so far was on Friday, when two sides of trialists played each other so that Paul Sturrock could try and assemble a squad. Stockport are reported to be set to name Paul Simpson as their new manager. The former Shrews boss will have less than four weeks to assemble a squad for the new season.

Morecambe are reported to be on the verge of signing Wrexham midfielder Andy Fleming. The 22 year old has turned down a new deal with the Dragons but will cost the Shrimps a fee. Port Vale striker Lewis Haldane remains in hospital after being bitten by an insect in training and getting blood poisoning. Chester took 1,500 fans to Colwyn Bay for their first friendly game in their new guise, but lost 2-0.

Former Bulls loanee Chukki Eribenne has signed for Ilkeston Town. Crawley are reported to have made a six-figure offer for Luton midfielder Keith Keane, just a month after he signed a new two year deal with the club.
