News Round Up

Shrewsbury are challenging Burton and Rotherham for released Walsall midfielder Mark Bradley. Aldershot have signed veteran midfielder Jamie Vincent after Walsall released him as he wanted to be closer to his Berkshire home. Rotherham say they increased commercial revenue by 20% last season. Anwar Uddin will captain Barnet for the coming season. The ex-Bull will be the first British Asian to captain a side in the Football League.

Crawley have announced ambitious plans to win the Conference this season at a press conference. They have had six figure offers for two players turned down in addition to the near six-figure signing of Matt Tubbs, and intend to break their transfer record in the next week. They say they are debt free, and have set manager Steve Evans no fixed budget for the season only a top 5 target. Their average gate last season was 1,003.

Torquay boss Paul Buckle is 'pretty confident' he will complete a season long loan deal for Burton defender Guy Branston. Stockport, who remain without a manager, are understood to have told highly rated keeper Owain fon Williams, 23, he is free to leave due to his wage demands no longer fitting into their new budget.

A consortium of local Southend businessmen have broken cover to declare their interest in 'saving' the club. The consortium is headed by Mark Rubin, a former Southend chairman whose father owned the club for nearly 20 years until the mid 80's. Oxford's board have told their AGM that they will turn a profit for the 2009/10 season after making a significant loss in 08/09. They say they owe nothing to the taxman, and no longer have an overdraft facility or other bank loans.

Cheltenham have confirmed the signing of midfielder JJ Melligan. He exercised a clause in his contract with Ian Foster's Dundalk allowing him to leave for a Football League side. Southend chairman Ron Martin says he has had to find £3.3million to keep the club running over the last seven months, and that this season's budget is £1million less than last season with several players on £4,000 a week departing the club. He hopes to get the transfer embargo lifted before the middle of July.

Bradford have signed Cheltenham captain Shane Duff on a one year deal with an option for a second term. Aldershot have signed midfielder Luke Guttridge on a one year deal. He was released by Northampton in May. Forest Green have admitted that their campaign to raise £250,000 to cure their financial problems has fallen 'substantially short' of it's target.
