Here is a profile of new Hereford United defender Michael Townsend.
Born 17th May 1986, 24 year old Townsend started his career as a trainee at Wolverhampton Wanderers. Unfortunately for Townsend, he failed to make a first-team appearance at Molineux and was released in January 2005, where he was quickly snapped up by Cheltenham Town.
Townsend has spent the majority of his career at Whaddon Road, making 134 appearances which included six goals. He spent a loan spell at Barnet after falling out of favour with the Robins in the 2008/2009 season, playing 13 times for the Bees before returning to Cheltenham and regaining his first-team place. In May 2010, Townsend, along with seven other players, was released by Cheltenham.
He joined Hereford on the 15th July 2010, after a trial at Edgar Street.
