Don't Believe All You Read on Bulls News

During this evening's Hereford United Fans Forum, chairman David Ketye took Bulls News to task for publishing a story which suggested that Hereford had paid around £20,000 for striker Stuart Fleetwood.

The figure of £20,000 came from Charlton sources.

"Firstly don't believe everything you read in newspapers," said Ketye.

"At this point in time Hereford United have not paid a penny for any of the players coming in."

Later when the subject of Fleetwood came up again Ketye was more specific.

"I think it was actually Bulls News that was saying £20,000!

"Different things can attract players. In Stuart's case, his partner is a local girl who is heavily pregnant, his in-laws are here and for somebody who hasn't quite made it at a certain club but is in a contract - it is surprising how many wheels can turn to pull something together without tranfer fees.

"If we can attract that sort of player to Hereford United without having to put money down up-front then so much the better."

The subject of undisclosed fees was raised in the context of Fleetwood's transfer.

"We didn't give anything to the Hereford Times about a fee or no fee," said Ketye. "They put believed to be, or whatever the words were, an undisclosed fee.

"The £20,000 fee that was mentioned was again unofficial."

Manager Simon Davey then gave some further explanation.

"With Stuart the situation arose because Charlton paid a lot of money for him. They wanted to appease their own supporters that they had got money back in because they had been asked questions.

"Sometimes football clubs like to say undisclosed because it does hide things. To take the player we had to portray that."
