One of the success stories of this season has been the enhanced work done by Jamie Edwards and the Football in the Community Scheme. To enable the work to progress The Hereford United In The Community Trust was set up late last year. It is registered as a charity and has several laudable aims.
The charity's 'Objects' are for the benefits of, in particular, the inhabitants of Herefordshire and its surrounding areas.
The main aim is 'to promote community participation in healthy recreation by providing facilities for the playing of association football and other sports capable of improving health'.
The four trustees are Graham Turner, Joan Fennessey, Mark Edwards (Retired managing director. He is currently a director of M&M Direct Ltd and M&M Sports Ltd) and Veronica Richardson from Mortimers Cross near Leominster.
The trust has been set up with the help of a firm of solicitors, Watson Burton LLP, in Newcastle who have recently been appointed by the Football League to provide an exclusive legal support service to the Community Schemes of its 72 member clubs.
The company secretary is WB Company Secretaries Limited.
Last January the Hereford United Trust received £24,000 from the Football League for its community work after reaching bronze award status. Hopefully it will soon receive a silver award which is worth £48,000.
Meanwhile Jamie Edwards and his team will be running Whitsun School Holiday Training Camps at Hereford and Ross on Wye on May 26/27. Also at Leominster and Ledbury on May 28/29.
