The Football League are considering applying a maximum wage cap to limit spending in each division.
Accrington boss John Coleman, who claims his £900,000 budget is one of the lowest in the League (last season, the Bulls spent £1.26million on wages), understands that the cap may be just £1million in League Two: "If you've got the money behind you it gives you a better chance.
"I know there’s been things mooted from Lord Mawhinney to introduce a salary cap that isn't reflective on your turnover, but that's what you've got to play with – a sort of maximum wage. Without a doubt I would be in favour of it. I mightn't be if I was at a club that had a lot of money, but certainly for us it can only narrow the gap.
"I think what they're trying to look at is you have a maximum wage bill for the season. At our level I think it's something in the region of £1m and then it goes up for League One and the Championship. Obviously the bigger clubs want to be able to use their financial muscle to gain an advantage. It will be interesting to see if it does come off."
Meanwhile Darlington have dropped loan players Liam Hatch and Danny Carlton after concerns were raised over their eligibility while the club is in Administration. The FA are claimed to have told the club that they are investigating the status of the loan players as the club is not currently paying the bills for the pair. The club could lose the points gained since going into Administration if they are found to be ineligible.
