News Round Up

Peterboro boss Darren Ferguson has set his lawyers on the Daily Mirror for suggesting he had applied for the managers post at QPR earlier in the season. Oldham are claimed to be favourites to sign Dean Windass after he was told he could leave Hull. Bradford have lost shirt sponsors Bradford & Bingley after the failed bank triggered a termination clause in their contract.

Colchester have failed with a £100,000 bid for Hibernian defender Rob Jones. The 6ft 7in giant ex-Grimsby man is their second six-figure target in a week. Chesterfield lost only £24,000 last season despite a disappointing on-field campaign. Their turnover dropped £300,000 following relegation, but was still £2.6million.

Leicester owner Milan Mandaric is 52nd in the latest FourFourTwo football rich list. Nineteen players make the top 100. Burton have named Roy McFarland to replace Nigel Clough until the end of the season. The veteran's first challenge is to beat the Bulls record of sucessive wins in the Conference, with the Brewers currently on a record equalling eleven straight victories.

Ex-Bull David Brown has been released by Barrow. The former Man Utd trainee scored four times in 15 games for the club and started Saturday's narrow loss at Middlesboro in the FA Cup. Carlisle have turned down a £250,000 bid for striker Danny Graham from Huddersfield. He is out of contract in the summer, and turns 24 in August.

Cambridge have ended their attempts to sign Peterboro striker Scott Rendell on loan until the end of the season. The Posh wanted £25,000 for the loan, £25,000 as a promotion bonus, and all the player's wages for the duration according to the U's. However the problem may be closer to home as their move for another January target, Stevenage's Daryl McMahon, was held up as they needed 'additional investment' to fund the deal.

Yeovil midfielder Marc Bircham is to quit the game after an injury ravaged 18 months with the club. MK Dons are giving a trial to Wolves winger Lewis Gobern with a view to a loan move after the player rejected a trial at Colchester. Dons striker Kevin Gallen is to negotiate a cancellation of his contract to allow him to join Luton permanently.
