In these times of recession there is every reason to try and help keep jobs in Herefordshire whenever possible. However the Edgar Street Grid (ESG) bosses have just given a 'prestigious picture contract' to photographers from Birmingham and Newport.
The contract was to provide a “visual legacy” for the centre of Hereford before and after any developement.
According to the Hereford Times the newly formed Hereford Media Professionals Group (HMPG) which represents printers, photographers, and video operators have called upon the ESG to use local photographers.
Johnathan Bretherton, the ESG chief executive, has responded to the HMPG.
"With hindsight ESG recognizes that locally based photographers should also have been given the opportunity to compete for the commissions," he said.
"Our procedures have been tightened up to ensure that any third party agents working on our behalf in the future are made aware of ESG’s policy of using local businesses wherever possible."
