Yeovil to copy Hereford Festival

When Hereford United were in the depth of despair in the Conference, Yeovil Town used to come along and 'steal' any player worth anything so that Graham Turner could continue to pay the bills.

The sale of Gavin Williams and Michael McIndoe spring to mind as then Yeovil manager Gary Johnson would always be on the lookout for a bargain.

Thankfully those days are over and next season Yeovil and Hereford will be playing in the same League for the first time for seven seasons. And now it seems the Glovers are to copy ideas from Herefordshire.

Next month Yeovil are to hold a beer festival at Huish Park. They say there will be 'top quality ales and ciders and top notch entertainment'.

Included in the ales will be:

Yeovil ales - Glovers Glory, Star Gazer, Summerset, Spring Forward and BST
Bath ales - GEM
Glastonbury ales - Lady of the Lake
Odcombe Brewery - Halfjack
Cottage Brewery - Norman's Conquest
Branscombe Brewery - Draymans

Whilst the list may be quite impressive, there's little doubt that Hereford can put up an equally, if not more, impresssive list.

And there is the annual Beer on the Wye festival which takes place from July 4th to July 6th - Herefordshire's largest ever bar in a riverside marquee at Hereford Rowing Club, Greyfriars Avenue, Hereford.

Herefordshire has several breweries including the Wye Valley and Spinning Dog and ales such as Bulls Up. Plus cider makers everywhere as this list taken from the CAMRA website shows.

It's nice to see Yeovil following a good Herefordshire idea. Perhaps it's a shame the Hereford festival couldn't be held at Edgar Street.

But the real icing on the cake would be for the Bulls to finish above the Glovers in League One this coming season. It could happen.

Then Hereford could say it has better beer, better cider and a better football team than our friends in Summerset.
