Little Rest for Turner

The players may have gone on holiday but Hereford United manager Graham Turner is unlikely to be able to spend much time away from his desk this week.

Amidst a host of other matters, Turner will be thinking about which players from the present squad he might like to keep for the coming campaign.

He will need to start to talk to the players on their return to Edgar Street, possibly starting on Wednesday. No doubt he will have a list in his mind but some players may be reluctant to accept new deals until they find out whether other clubs may be interested in them.

Defender Dean Beckwith is such a player. It is public knowledge that he has been watched by scouts but whether he has received, or will receive offers from other clubs, is unknown.

Just eight days ago at the Town Hall Turner spoke highly of his squad.

"It has been a real pleasure working with them this season. They've been a great bunch of players. It's great to have come across a group that have gelled together, worked together, and drink together occassionally.

"But they have been fanastic and deserve all the accolades that they have received"

No talk about cancer in the dressing room as was the case twelve months ago.

Turner's comments suggest he may try and keep the majority of the regular squad. However he will be mindful that a few may not quite be good enough for League One.

Those players already signed are Steve Guinan, Ben Smith, Kris Taylor and Clint Easton.

It was also reported that John McCombe had signed a two year deal (see Bulls News July 7th) but in last week's Hereford Times he was not on the list of players signed for the coming season. Some doubt also about Karl Broadhurst. The Official Website said he had signed a one year deal (OS also July 7th) but the Hereford Times said last week he was 'under contract for next season'.

There is strong speculation that both Wayne Brown and Toumani Diagouraga are likely to agree new deals.
