The Watford Observer are reporting that former Bull Lionel Ainsworth is set to start in today’s Championship play-off game.
Aidy Boothroyd is understood to be considering shelving his favoured 4-4-2 formation and switching to a 4-3-3 for the first-leg of the play-off semi-final with Hull City.
The manager worked on the idea with his players during a double training session on Wednesday and is aiming to catch Tigers boss Phil Brown by surprise with a new-look set-up that will see Lionel Ainsworth and Jobi McAnuff flank Nathan Ellington, the lone striker, in attack.
Ainsworth, who will get the nod ahead of Tamas Priskin, and McAnuff will take their place in a five-man midfield when Watford are defending as Boothroyd bids to solve the problem of his side being counter-attacked at Vicarage Road.
